2010 Young Artist Competition - Sunday, February 7, 2010
Requirements
This competition is open to students in grades 9-12 who reside in the State of Ohio.
Entry is open to all instruments, including piano and voice.
The first place contestant will perform with the Cleveland Philharmonic Orchestra at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 23, 2010.
Written approval from the student’s private teacher MUST accompany the application.
Instrumental contestants should be prepared to perform a full length concerto, or other suitable piece, drawn from the standard concerto repertoire. Singers may choose an aria or group of arias or art songs with orchestral accompaniment, with a minimum overall performance time of 12 minutes. The selection performed in concert is subject to the approval of the Cleveland Philharmonic Orchestra. It is the responsibility of the student to verify the availability of orchestral materials for the selection to be performed.
Auditions will be held in the Metro Campus Auditorium of Cuyahoga Community College, Cleveland, Ohio on Sunday, February 7, 2010. Audition times will be assigned by mail. Although we will try to accommodate your schedule request, it may not always be possible.
Each student must arrange for his/her own accompanist. The accompanist must be present at the competition in order for the student to perform.
Contestants must provide one score for the judges.
The decision of the judges is final. Judges reserve the right to withhold prizes if no contestants are deemed qualified.
The winner must be prepared and available to rehearse with the orchestra at times designated by the music director. Rehearsals are held at Cuyahoga Community College on Thursday evenings from 7:30 to 10:00 p.m.
Past winners may not re-apply for the competition in subsequent years.
Applications must be postmarked by December 31, 2009. No entry will be accepted after the deadline. The signed application form and instructor’s approval should be sent to the following address.
