RAY LIDDLE, BARITONE

Ray Liddle has performed throughout the Midwest and Northeast Ohio for more than 30 years. He has sung with the Cleveland Orchestra at Blossom and at Severance Hall in productions of Israel In Egypt, Don Carlo, Elektra and Le Nozze di Figaro. He performs regularly with Opera Circle, performing roles such as Pasquale in Don Pasquale, Rigoletto in Rigoletto, Oroveso in Norma, and Bartolo in Marriage of Figaro, among others. He was featured by that organization as one of its spotlight artists for 2008. Blessed with a wide vocal range, Mr. Liddle has sung bass, baritone, and tenor roles, including a bass role (Jake) and a tenor role (President Arthur) at the same time (!) in Cleveland Opera’s production of The Ballad of Baby Doe. He has also performed the roles of the Mandarin in Turandot, Zaretsky in Eugene Onegin and many others with Cleveland Opera.
Mr.
Liddle has performed in concert as soloist with the Akron Symphony,
the Wooster Symphony, the Mansfield Symphony, the Detroit Opera, the
Indianapolis Symphony, the Youngstown Symphony, and more. Mr. Liddle
was a member of the Robert Page Cleveland Singers and the Old Stone
Singers, and currently serves as bass soloist and section leader of
Epworth-Euclid United Methodist Church and Park Synagogue, and tenor
soloist and section leader of the Fairmount Temple choir.
An Adjunct Instructor of Voice at Cleveland State University, Mr. Liddle has taught at Malone College, Indiana Central University (now University of Indianapolis) and Indiana University, where he holds the singular distinction of having Associate Instructorships in three entirely different areas of study, namely Music Theory, Horn, and Voice. He holds a Bachelor of Music degree in Horn Performance from The University of Akron, and a Master of Music in Theory and a Master of Music in Voice from Indiana University, where he studied horn with Philip Farkas and voice with Walter Cassel, Dr. Roger Havranek and James King. He was a Regional Finalist in the Metropolitan Opera Auditions and the NATS competition, and received a grant from the Liederkranz Foundation to audition and study in Europe.
